Thousands of Shinto shrines are scattered throughout Kyoto. A few are listed as World Heritage sites and attract millions of tourists a year. In the early morning before the bustle, Fushimi Inari Shrine offers a beautiful hike through an endless path of gorgeous red torii gates. In the evening, the Kodaiji Temple puts on a gorgeous light show, which is pretty majestic. Sliding down the scale, countless other shrines are no larger than a suitcase and can only be found after getting lost in a quiet back street in search of some western food.
